Overview
Okanagan Lake, is located in a region of the same name, the Okanagan Valley. Situated in the Canadian province of British Columbia, Okanagan Lake stretches out over 135 kilometers and is the 8th largest lake in the province. It is well known for being a hub of fun and relaxation in the summer months. Having a completely unique desert landscape, mild climate, and warm water means that Okanagan Lake draws in tourists from far and wide looking to enjoy the gorgeous beaches and take part in water activities.
Best Time to Visit
If you’re looking to enjoy a dip in the warm water then you will want to visit the Okanagan from mid-May to mid-September. That being said if you’re into cold plunges or just want to take in the stunning views of the lake from one of the many hiking trails, then spring and fall are also quite fantastic times to visit.

Water Activities
Swimming: There are so many incredible spots along Okanagan Lake, in fact too many to name. Ellison Provincial Park is one spot of note that features idyllic hiking trails leading down to picturesque bays of red sand beach and jade-colored waters. There are great spots in each and every town along the lake including Vernon, Lake Country, Kelowna, Peachland, Summerland, Penticton, and Naramata.
Boating: If you aren’t coming to the Okanagan Valley equipped with some kind of watercraft, don't worry there are plenty of great places along the lake to rent a paddleboard, kayak, or boat.
Fishing: Okanagan Lake is of course a hotspot for fishing and has several species of fish like trout and salmon.
Hiking and Biking
Myra Canyon Park: This park was once the location of a rail line that is now defunct and has been repurposed as a hiking and biking area. It boasts a ton of excellent trails and its highlights include old trestle bridges that were designed to support the train as it moved over the extremely rugged terrain.
Okanagan Mountain Provincial Park: This is the biggest park in the Okanagan Valley at 110.38 km2 (42.62 sq mi) and comprises several trails, 6 campsites (former marine camp areas), and even small lakes.
